Safety Photo Beams (R4222)
The GTO/PRO Safety Photo Beams are used as a primary safety device in providing a “non-contact” means of entrapment protection. Consult your GTO/PRO distributor and refer to the installation manual of your GTO/PRO gate operator system for further information regarding placement and requirements of safety devices.

BEAMS & EDGES An Overview For The Beginner

BEAMS - Beams, when interrupted sense objects. Beams are frequently used in an attempt to provide additional protection from moving gates as they will detect humans and animals where loops will not. Unfortunately, because of the narrowness of the beam, they are not a perfect solution and can leave some areas unprotected. Slide gates due to their in-line travel are probably easier to provide protection for. Swing gates on the other hand cover a lot of ground while “plowing” across their path. No beam can provide 100% coverage and should be used in conjunction with other devices.

EDGES - Edges, upon normal contact, cause an electrical connection to reverse and/or stop moving gates. Slide gates due to their in-line travel are probably easier to provide protection for. Swing gates on the other hand cover a lot of ground while “plowing” across their path and require edges on the inside, outside and at any pinch-points.

Refer to the gate operator manufacturer’s installation instructions for complete safety and installation information. Humans and vehicles may require different protection devices.
